Please note: You do not need to purchase a separate restrictor gate for this insert. It is designed to work with your Sanwa JLF's existing GT-8F gate. It is not compatible with the Sanwa JLF-TPRG-8AYT-SK Silent Microswitch Joystick, as the restrictor plate does not allow swapping an insert. You may try purchasing a GT-8F plate for that model however. It is not compatible with the newer Sanwa GT-8X Square Restrictor Gate.
The Sanwa GT Y Octagonal Restrictor Plate is one of our most popular products. Players love the smoother, circular motions that this product offered. The actual clear plastic gates themselves, however, are already installed in most Sanwa JLF series joysticks as the Sanwa GT-8F 4/8-Way Restrictor Plate.
Every Sanwa JLF-series Joystick, including Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT Joystick or Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y-SK Joystick (No Plate Installed) comes with the Sanwa GT-8F restrictor plate. This clear plastic plate houses a square-shaped insert that allows for up, down, left, right and diagonal movement. While effective, it doesn't feel as natural when attempting to perform quarter-circle, half-circle, or full-circle (360-degree) motions. These motions are common in most fighting games, which a square gate cannot reproduce easily. The translucent yellow insert, which contains the octagonal guide, is the most important part. If you already own the GT-8F restrictor plate on every Sanwa JLF, buying another just for the GT-Y insert seems like a wasted purchase.
The clear GT-Y insert we offer is molded with the exact same specifications as the yellow insert available in the official Sanwa GT-Y, and works just as well. Hadoken, Shoryuken and Spinning Piledriver attacks are fluid and easy to perform.

Best for new users
Very easy to put in. Feels the same as my friends actual sanwa gate. Best for player getting into arcade sticks. Too many times Ive had people get really confused to why does it have to be in a square. Highly recommend getting this if you are getting a new joystick so you can get it for 1$. Works as advertised, allowing a nice and even spinning motion. Diagonals are a little trickier to locate, something that more practice will likely resolve, and stick travel is slightly increased (unless you also change out the actuator). In the end I went back to the trusty square gate, but you can't go wrong for the price they're at to find out if they're for you. Chadnaut on Nov 2nd 2016

Good gate hard to provide solid rating
I recently replaced my square gate insert on my old hori mvc stick jlf with this octo gate Insert the range of motion is nice but does not have responsiveness the square gate had never changed the actuator that could be a factor but I began to appreciate the square gate more tried hayabusa stick and now feel hayabusa is far superior to jlf and it was the octo that lead me down that road lol Unknown on Sep 11th 2016

great product but..
this fits my MADCATZ TE2 perfectly. QCF &"Z" motions are easier to pull off but my movement is really restricted on the corners only 6%. i'v watched YT videos on restricter plate movement percentage but i wanted to try it out either way. depending on what kind of character you play this might or might not workout for you. i play charge characters so this plate did work out for me. maybe with command characters this would work Luis on Jul 4th 2016

Struggling with a square gate? This might be your answer!
I'm a new fightstick user, and I finally got use to playing with a square gate, but my execution wasn't consistent, especially in high pressure situations. After using this inexpensive and easy-to-install, 8-way gate insert, but execution has vastly improved. I cannot say it will do the same for you, but if you're having trouble performing quarter/half circle motions consistently, give this a try. Like what Mike Harris said in a previous review, you can still play a charge character using this 8-way gate, although, I did find it easier playing them using a square gate, so I guess it depends what characters you use in your chosen fighting game.
