The contact cylinder is designed to rotate as the Cherry MX's fragile switch's contact pins are inserted into the housing. This prevents the pins from bending, and holds the contact pins tightly in place.
Due to their tiny size, extra care is needed to handle the contact cylinder. Should you accidentally pop out the cylinders, getting them back in will require a pair of curved pointed tip tweezers. They are also quite easy to lose. Seimitsu now offers a the Contact Cylinder Retention Sticker 10 Pak - a convenient way to keep the pair of cylinders from disloging from its base.
